Code of Conduct
Last updated Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
Introduction
GamingPeak strives to provide a fun and exciting place to meet people, play games, make new friends, and relax.
To both join and use any services provided by and in the GamingPeak website, we require that you agree to and abide by our GamingPeak Code of Conduct (GP CoC) at all times. This will ensure all players have the opportunity to enjoy their time and experiences here at GamingPeak.
This Code of Conduct is enforced in all manner of PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS while at GamingPeak; in all GamingPeak’s lobbies, forums, wiki areas, newsgroups, and on all of GamingPeak’s servers and services. It is also expected that any PRIVATE communications follow these same rules.
It is advised that each user at GamingPeak review our Code of Conduct for additions and/or changes on a periodic basis. In addition to this site's general Code of Conduct, you may be required to have knowledge of and adhere to other specific policies while using GamingPeak services, such as the Terms of Use, League Policies, Host Regulations, etc., all of which may be found at the GamingPeak website.
GamingPeak requires that applicants, players and users of our services be over 13 years old.
If you do not agree with any of the terms of use covered by this document, or with the spirit of behavior this document requests of you, then do not continue to play here, or use the services offered by this site.
Finally, GamingPeak cannot be held liable for any content or activities in any user-hosted room, and is not responsible for any user created content on our site.
Respect
First and foremost, always show respect for other users of GamingPeak's services and at GamingPeak's site. The spirit of this Code of Conduct is simple: Treat others with the same respect and courtesy that you would like to expect from them. The rest of this document merely explains ways in which respect applies to interacting and playing here at GamingPeak.
Always show respect to yourself, others, and the software, and the rest should be common sense.
Inappropriate Actions or Communications
GamingPeak considers the following actions or communications as a violation of its Code of Conduct:
Profanity
GamingPeak does not condone or allow any written communications, either in typed text (language) or nicknames (in whole or in part) that can be interpreted by others to be profane, vulgar or in extremely poor taste. This includes but is not limited to: political events, controversial religious topics, controversial current world or historical issues, or notorious people or organizations. This includes text typed to convey any disruptive, offensive or inciteful content (in any language) or acronyms representing such.
Discussion or issues of this nature that are flagged by the volunteer staff as potentially disruptive/inciting or offensive are best explored at either a table or a chat room specifically designed for lobby chat only. Game rooms are focused on game play, game discussion, friendly chats and greetings, and non-controversial topics of interest.
Slander and Libel
GamingPeak does not condone typed text (language) or nicknames that in any way imply, looks like, sounds like when spoken, stands for, hints at, is abbreviated for, suggests, represents or insinuates or can be interpreted as slanderous or libelous to anyone or anyone using GamingPeak services. Use of any inappropriate actions or communications could result in a temporary removal of your chat privileges or your ability to access GamingPeak services. In certain cases, repeated violations may result in the entire removal of your full account privileges for an extended period of time, or permanently.
Please also note that inappropriate language (or actions) in places other than chat areas, such as for table names, room names or table descriptions are also considered violations.
Appropriate Usernames
The spirit of a nickname is a way to uniquely identify you in a non-threatening, non-offensive and non-ambiguous way. You may not create or use any username that violates the terms of this Code of Conduct. This includes, but is not limited to, any nickname that violates the Inappropriate Language and Actions policy, above. Even if GamingPeak lets you register such a name, GamingPeak may determine that your username is still in violation of this policy.
You may not create usernames that attempt to or are designed to impersonate other GamingPeak users, or volunteers (sysops, hosts, techs, or administrative personnel). This is considered a disruptive activity.
Nicknames that attack other users, are offensive in that they call attention to themselves negatively as a topic of conversation or concern to other players, represent offensive historical figures or events, are themselves disparaging terms, represent a choice and example of extremely poor taste, or violate the spirit of the GamingPeak Code of Conduct and site, will be removed.
Harassment, Inciting and Disruptive Behavior
Harassment, Inciting and Disruptive Behavior are all violations of the GamingPeak Code of Conduct.
- Harassment includes any behavior or attacks that others find personally offensive and could be considered generally disruptive to the flow, fun and positive experiences of any/all other users at this site.
- Inciting includes any behavior or comments that encourage others to violate the GamingPeak Code of Conduct, or attempt to create a contentious and more hostile environment in the lobby by introducing controversial or incendiary elements into the chat flow.
- Disruptive behavior is an action or comment that is deemed to cause or promote, as it's goal, a temporary or permanent destruction of the positive energy, experience and/or environment of a GamingPeak room or event.
- In general, the spirit of the code is respect to all. Any abuse, or disruption of the positive experience of other users, staff, or members of the volunteer team (hosts/sysops/techs) might result in a suspension of your privileges to participate at GamingPeak, or removal of your account.
Hacking, Cheating, and Disruptive Software
- Do not abuse or threaten to abuse GamingPeak’s services or its users, players or volunteers/other staff members.
- Abuse can include connecting to GamingPeak’s services without using the official client, denial of service attacks, flooding, lagging, hacking or attempts to hack or otherwise cause disruption to GamingPeak’s servers or guest user's computers.
- Do not use or threaten to use GamingPeak’s software or services for any purpose other than what it was intended.
- Cheating is not permitted. Do not use any software, specialized or generic systems, or mechanical methods or threaten to use any of these in an attempt to cheat or disrupt the experience of other players, or games/events. Items can include but are not limited to, flooders, worms, intelligent sensing autobots, integrated or non-integrated software tracking or communications systems, trojan horses, viruses, and IP grabbers.
Etiquette
Chat Etiquette
Do not flood. Flooding is any repetitive posting behavior that causes the chat windows to scroll excessively. Additionally, flooding takes up an excessive amount of lobby chat space, impeding others posts from easily being recognized.
Discussions and conversations that take up lobby chat space are not flooding, but can be disruptive in that users may not be able to find partners to play (due to too much chatter). If identified as such by a moderator or a volunteer, such topics and conversations should be taken to another chat room or a private table.
Avoid use of all capital letter posts, or excessive capital letters in a post. This is considered shouting. Caps might be used for emphasizing a few selected words in a post, but not for entire posts.
Advertisement, URL and Link Policy
Revised 12/18/2007
GamingPeak guests/patrons agree not to advertise, offer to sell any goods or services, promote any surveys, contests, chain letters, personal or professional philanthropic ventures, or represent any commercial or non-commercial purposes/causes anywhere on our website or with any of our public or private communications tools without the expressed, and in-advance written approval for such activities by GamingPeak Administration.
No solicitation of any type can be posted in or transmitted through any of GamingPeak's electronic communications methods or venues. Doing so is a violation, and could result in the permanent removal of your account from our site.
An “advertisement” is defined as any chat or communication sent via GamingPeak’s services which contain links to, advertisements of, or references toward any site or event, including GamingPeak leagues/groups, tournaments, non-GamingPeak sites, etc.
Advertisements must be preapproved before they can be posted, and they must adhere to all other GamingPeak COC guidelines. To submit a proposed advertisement, e-mail support@gamingpeak.com regarding establishing a business relationship with GamingPeak. You will receive a response with further instructions regarding your advertising status.
In addition to any regulations imposed in the e-mail response to your inquiry, advertisements must also adhere to the following guidelines:
- Must be spaced at least 10 minutes apart.
- Must not contain, or link to, content that violates the COC.
- Must not be created solely to promote commercial ventures.
- Must not disrupt the lobby.
- Must be preapproved, via a response from support@gamingpeak.com.
All advertising permissions are temporary and may be revoked if necessary. Permission may include guidelines specific to your ad other than the ones listed above.
As with any link posted, users need to protect themselves against hacks, hackers, bogus websites, and objectionable content. Clicking on any links posted anywhere in GamingPeak (lobbies, forums, chat room, trivia room, etc) is done AT YOUR OWN RISK to your personal information and identity, and computer system/network.
Private Messages and Whispers
- Whispers and Private Messages are by definition intended to be private.
- Do not post private messages or whispers into any public venues. Doing so will result in the temporary loss of your chat privileges.
- Private messages and whispers fall under the same rules as lobby chat messages (ie, public communications), including those about respect, profanity, and those specified in the Inappropriate Language and Actions policy section, above. Sending private messages to others, which violate this Code of Conduct, is also prohibited.
Game Etiquette
- Do not verbally harass other users in the game table chat area.
- Do not disrupt games in progress at tables. Continually returning to a table you have been removed from by the table host is disruptive, and may result in the table being locked to prevent you from entering, or removed from the entire game room.
- Do not stalk (following and impeding) other users and prevent them from playing or conducting a game.
- Do NOT stall a table game's commencement or progress by sitting and not playing.
- Using multiple tables in one room (locked or unlocked) for any purposes and/or for extended periods of time could be considered disruptive, and could result in being booted from the room if the tables are not relinquished to others.
- The table host (the table host has the hammer icon at the table) may utilize tools to kick out kibitzers and other users from the game table and/or control admittance to the table via a password key and table lock. (This does not apply in Tournaments, where the Host Regulations apply.)
- Camping with a visible nickname at any single open or locked table is permitted in GamingPeak's social playing rooms, but may not be permitted in tourney or league rooms.

Enforcement
GamingPeak Volunteer Teams
Revised 10/10/07
GamingPeak's volunteers include Sysops (+), Hosts (hammer) and Techs (T).
GamingPeak has appointed certain identified users to help enforce this Code of Conduct. They typically sport a blue + icon, and are known as sysops.
Sysops are the primary group of tokened volunteers who help keep the game experience safe and enjoyable for all. However, all tokened volunteers support Code of Conduct enforcement in various places in GamingPeak. They all should be treated with the same respect and the same deference as all users, in the spirit of this Code of Conduct.
- All tokened volunteers are at GamingPeak in an attempt to create the most positive experience possible for every guest and patron here.
- Do not threaten, insult, demean, attack, degrade, swear at or harass any tokened volunteer publicly or privately through any written communication methods (for example: whispers, GP Messenger, or e-mail). Doing so is a violation, and could result in the removal of your chat or account privileges or other appropriate action.
- Be patient. Tokened volunteers may be communicating with other players on their issues, usually on a first-come, first-served basis. If your issue is urgent, please identify it as such to receive immediate assistance.
Your cooperation with all tokened volunteers is appreciated.
If you have feedback related to any tokened volunteer here at GamingPeak, please e-mail support@gamingpeak.com with the following information to support your claim:
- The player nic of the person reporting this incident
- The nic(s) of the volunteer(s) being reported
- The date and time of the incident
- The GamingPeak room this issue occurred in
- The reason/type of issue you're reporting, ie: tool action, code violation, letter of recommendation, etc
- A brief but concise synopsis of your issue.
- If you're reporting an issue, make your point by using small key sections from your logfiles in your email message and/or references to your screenshots (ie: plz see screenshot 1.jpg).
- Attach the FULL logfiles and your screenshots as your evidence to your email so we can verify your data.
Empower Yourself
Each user is empowered to report violations they see or personally experience.
Using a similar format mentioned above, please send a short email and be sure to include a brief description of the problem along with your evidence. Screenshots of the whisper or the lobby chat will provide the best evidence of your claim. Lobby logs are adequate in support of your issue, too.
Tools are available to block objectionable private communications, such as whispers. Ignore can be employed to block both public and private message from anyone (except tokens).
Submit the email of your incident or issue in a timely manner to: support@gamingpeak.com
Accounts
- GamingPeak reserves the right to terminate your account or account privileges without notification. Usage of this site and its services is allowed entirely at the discretion of GamingPeak.
- GamingPeak is a free service, and as such, does not make any guarantee about service quality or uptime. Do not use GamingPeak in mission-critical activities.
This Code of Conduct may be changed at any time, without notice. Please check back frequently to ensure you are in compliance.
Remember the most important part of the Code: Respect.
